University Futures - New Engagements: A Public Discussion

Thursday May 10, 1.30-4pm, Room EBG.06

How can universities in developing economies sustain and develop their programmes and research in the face of the international marketisation of higher education?

What are the possibilities for new higher education initiatives in the UK and other high-income countries, in the current political climate?

What might the higher education sector learn from the new educational forms being created within the Occupy movement?

This panel discussion will explore the imaginative possibilities that have been suggested and developed by the speakers for the futures of higher education in the UK and internationally.

The event follows on from the autumn 2011 University Futures discussion coordinated by UEL, the Campaign for Social Sciences, and Times Higher Education.

Panel speakers:

- Dr Les Back, Professor of Sociology, Goldsmiths' College, University of
London.
