School of Law and Social Sciences (LSS)The early part of my career was spent working as an Executive Officer for the Government's Export Credits Guarantee Department followed by a period working in merchant banks, principally as a loans officer. Subsequently I took up full time study of law, the culmination of which was graduating with an LLM from the London School of Economics, University of London . The subjects that I studied for the LLM reflected my experience/interest in business and finance, namely: Company Law, Law of Credit and Security, British & European Competition Law and Maritime Law. There then followed a spell when I undertook lecturing in law on a part time basis at a number of institutions. I spent a brief spell as an aricled clerk at Herbert Smith, city solicitors, before leaving to take up a full time lecturing post in Luton (September 1981).
I joined what was then the Accounting & Finance Department, part of the Faculty of Business of UEL, in September 1982. I taught Business Law, Company Law and/or Tax on the B.A. Accounting & Finance Hons Degree Programme, the full time ACCA programme and the MBA programme. Subsequently I also undertook the teaching of Business Law, Company Law and EU Law on the B.A. Business Hons Degree Programme. In addition I developed and taught the Revenue Law module for the Law School ,s LLB programme. In 1999 I transferred from the Business School (previously the Faculty of Business) to the Law School and was subsequently promoted to Principal Lecturer in Law. Currently I lecture in Revenue Law on the LLB programme and in Business Law and Company Law on the Business and Management degree at Queen Marys, University of London , under an arrangement between Queen Mary's and UEL.
In addition to my lecturing duties I have undertaken: guest lectures on Trust and Agency Law at Lloyds of London; guest lectures on Company Law at a number of merchant banks; guest lectures to members of both the ICSA and CIMA; lectures for the ACCA at CPD conferences. I have also undertaken some consultancy work.
Furthermore I am currently an examiner and moderator, and have been so since 1990, in Company & Partnership Law and in Company Practice for the Institute of Legal Executives.
