Our Library and Learning Services (LLS), London East Research Institute (LERI) and the Institute for Health and Human Development (IHHD) have secured over £100,000 to create a London 2012 digital archive entitled East London Lives 2012 (ELL2012) . Funded by JISC (HEFCE's Joint Information Services Committee), the bid was submitted over the summer.
The project starts in October and is designed to create a research resource on London 2012 focusing on themes of community development and health and well-being. We also aim to create undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Olympic Studies; support teaching nationally and internationally by offering open access to higher education institutions, worldwide; inform decision- and policy-making for London 2012’s Olympic legacy and record, through interviews, the experiences of Londoners who witnessed the 1948 London Olympic Games, using these oral histories as points of comparison with contemporary voices and data.
The project management team, Andrew McDonald, Gurdish Sandhu, Iain MacRury, Gavin Poynter and Adrian Renton, want to work closely with our research community.
If you have ideas about developing the archive or would like to find out more about the project please contact Dr Mary Smith, Project Manager for ELL2012 ELL2012@uel.ac.uk
