The launch of the Ports of Call 'Walks of Art' audio project May 7th 2008

Launch: 3pm, Wednesday 7th May, 2008
Guided Walks: 12 noon and 3.30pm

You are invited to join us in the launch of Walks of Art at the Royal Docks, three self-guided audio trails around the Royal Docks in East London. The trails include the voices of dozens of people who have lived and worked in the docks and their surrounding communities, along with original music composed by Jo Thomas and young people in Silvertown. The trail authors will be leading guided walks of the trails throughout the day and listening equipment will be provided.

The launch is part of MayFest 08, a free one day arts and cultural festival on the waterfront of the Albert Dock. For full programme details, see www.uel.ac.uk/mayfest

LAUNCH: 3pm audio trail launch at the East building, room EB G.18 (ground floor)

University of East London, Docklands Campus

Nearest station: Cyprus DLR (please note that on-campus parking will very difficult due to MayFest)

GUIDED WALKS:

12 noon: West Silvertown Trail: Gunpowder, Fire and Flood led by composer Jo Thomas

Meet: main reception, Excel Centre (Custom House DLR end)

3.30pm: North Woolwich Trail: Deep Water led by artist Mark Hunter (meet EB G.18 immediately after the launch)

Both trails are less than two miles long and should take less than two hours to complete; they both involve a journey on the Docklands Light Railway. Feel free to bring a friend, but please RSVP to Toby Butler, project
