Databases

The LLS Databases list electronic resources that contain citations, abstracts and full-text articles about ICT. For further information on how to access the databaselist on campus or off campus and how to set up an Athens account, please see the Athens page. Suggested databases:

ABI / INFORM
Use to search business research topics. Search nearly 1800 worldwide business periodicals for in-depth coverage of business and economic conditions, management techniques, theory, and practice of business, advertising, marketing, economics, human resources, finance, taxation, computers, and more. Information on more than 60,000 companies with business and executive profiles.
Access: Internet access available on campus from any PC within the University network.

ACM Digital Library
A vast resource of the Association of Computing Machinery, Bibliographic information, citations and full text articles and proceedings. It contains the full text of all 21 ACM journals and magazines from 1991 onward. Citations to all other ACM publications are available BUT not the full text.
Access: Internet access available on campus from any PC within the University network.

EBSCO Academic Search Complete
Includes the Academic Search Elite database which provides full text for nearly 1,850 publications, including more than 1,250 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to the full text, indexing and abstracts are provided for all 3,237 journals in the collection. This database offers information in nearly every area of academic study including: social sciences, humanities, computer sciences, engineering, and more. The majority of full text titles are available in pdf or scanned-in-color. Full text information dates from 1985.

EMERALD Full Text
Emerald Abstracts, includes Computer Abstracts International, Computer & Communications Security Abstracts and
International Civil Engineering Abstracts.
Emerald Fulltext has over 300 academic journals, containing full text articles and research abstracts.
Emerald Reviews contains over 110,000 independent reviews of articles taken from the world's leading management publications, covering the major management disciplines.

NEXIS UK
Comprehensive international news, business and company data, including full text of all the major UK newspapers and major overseas daily publications. Coverage of approximately 12,000 publications from national & local newspapers, press releases, transcripts of tv broadcasts, newswires, statistical bulletins, magazines and trade journals.
Access: Internet access available from any PC within the University network. Athens personal password required if you are off campus.

Science Direct
One of the largest scientific, technical and medical databases. Includes over 1800 journals from Elsevier Science, four million articles and over 59 million abstracts from all fields of science. Articles are available online before appearing in print. Online access to multimedia features not available in print journals, such as: video files, audio files, Excel spreadsheets and Word files.

Swetswise
Swetswise is a multi-disciplinary journals database providing full text access to the tables of contents for 16,667 titles. UEL users have access to the full text of 1,397 titles.

Web of Knowledge
Contains the Science, Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities Citation Indexes and the ISI Journal Citation Reports.

Zetoc
The Zetoc service provides access to the British Library's Electronic Table of Contents (ETOC). The database contains details of approximately 20,000 current journals and 16,000 conference proceedings published per year. With around 20 million journal and conference records, the database covers every imaginable subject in science, technology, medicine, engineering, business, law, finance and the humanities. Around 100,000 of the journals included are available for electronic data delivery (EDD) download. The database covers the years from 1993 to date and is updated daily. A list of journal titles covered by the database is available. Copies of all the articles and conference papers listed on the database can be ordered online from the British Library's Document Supply Centre in Yorkshire.

Printed Resources

Reference books can provide a valuable first approach to a subject area and an ideal source of background information. There are many different types of reference books and the more familiar formats include encyclopaedias, dictionaries, guides, handbooks and directories.
Here are some examples of reference books that may be useful to students in the Innovation Studies department:
