Online Databases

Basing your assignments on good, reliable sources is critical to achieving a good mark for your work. We subscribe to a number of databases which hold full text access to a large amount of academic articles and research for you to use. It is also vital that you reference your work correctly so please see the library link to 'Cite Them Right' Referencing for more information.

    Includes useful press releases and statistical information.
  • Finweb
    Heavily American resource. Contains links to economics magazines as well as other useful financial information.
  • Money Extra
    UK site aimed at personal finance. Information on the stock market, insurance, rates, savings, tax & currencies. Includes a daily business news service.
  • Competition Commission
    As a result of the 1998 Competition Act the Competiton Commission replaced the Monopolies & Mergers Commission. Also access to the European Commission site on Competition.
  • Department for Business, Innovation & Skills
    Information on its activities & resources; exports & investment; business support; regulatory guidance; science & industry; & economic competition.
  • Europa
    Official website of the European Union. Containing links to the various bodies, legislation, news and basic information on the EU.
  • Institute for Fiscal Studies
    Large amount of published information available on a range of economics-related issues including econometrics, consumption, the labour market, etc.. Contains links to its research centre.
  • International Monetary Fund
    Large website containing extensive materials produced by the IMF. Useful country information, press releases, financial snapshots and archives back to 1996 are all included.
  • PriceWaterhouse Coopers
    Includes latest economic news & related business issues (e.g. The EMU).
  • Statistics Agencies
    Comprehensive listing of UN, national, and other statistical agencies available through the web.
  • United States Securities and Exchange Commission
    For access to the EDGAR database for company information and reports on those based in the USA.
  • UK Treasury
    Search economic information , news budget news , initiatives and guidance, etc.
