Databases and Electronic Resources

Databases

There are several databases that are very useful in the area of Computing. A lot of the databases we subscribe to give you access to expenisve technical information free of charge as a UEL student. The information that you will find has been quality assured and reviewed so you can be sure of the quality. Much of the information on these databases is available full-text and is accessible from home, with your Athens account, as well as from University.

  • ABI/inform- This database is primarily useful in the field of Business, however there are a number of journals and articles realting to the area of IT. This database is particularly useful if you are looking at topics where business and IT are related for example project management or managing information in a business context. Some IEEE journals are accessible through this database.
  • ACM digital library- This database is only available on campus. It allows you access to the 21 journals from the ACM. Please note that although the search results will show conference papers, these are not available full text on our subscription. It is only the journal articles that you will be able to access full text from this database.
  • ANTE- ( Abstracts in New Technologies and Engineering) This is an abstract database, so the information that you are able to access is a citation and an abstract. This database covers the subject areas of computing and information technology.
  • British standards online- This is a very search friendly database of British standards covering a range of areas such as: Information security and green IT.
  • Computer abstracts- This database gives you access to abstracts from over 200 international computing journals. It is well indexed and will give you a good start on your literature review.
  • EBSCO Academic Search Complete- This is a useful database for finding a range of journal articles relating to Information Technology and computing. This database is easy to search and also has a lot of full text material available for you.
  • EBSCO Business Source Complete- This database is good for finding information about uses of computing and Information Technology in a business related context.
  • EBSCO Greenfile - This database may be useful if you are looking at the effects of computing and Information and Technology on environment.
  • Emerald - This database is primarily for management and business related journals and articles. It does have some coverage in the area of knowledge management and project management which may be of interest.
