Online Databases

Basing your assignments on good, reliable sources is critical to achieving a good mark for your work. We subscribe to a number of databases which hold full text access to a large amount of academic articles and research for you to use. It is also vital that you reference your work correctly so please see the library link to 'Cite Them Right' Referencing for more information.

Confederation of British Industry News, business links, the confederation's own journal, and information on current business issues.
Companies House Official government site for UK companies. Contains information and advice as well as a link to the Companies Act 2006. Please see the Keynote database for financial data on all UK registered companies.
Department for Business, Innovation and Skills Information on its activities and resources; exports and investment; business support; regulatory guidance; science and industry; and economic competition.
Institute for Fiscal Studies Large amount of published information available on a range of business-related issues. Contains links to its research centre.
The Cherie Blair Foundation Site contains some useful resources to female entrepreneurship and women in business.
BBC Country Profiles Links to country profiles from around the world, including historical, political and economic information.
Office For National Statistics Useful site map and links to other associated organisations.
UK Trade and Investment UK Trade and Investments for information on UK business exporting abroad.
Transparency International This site can help you find corruption figures for nearly every country in the world. This is particularly useful if you are studying corporate responsibility and governance.
Quandl Quandl is a free to use repository of time-series data. It is especially relevant to anyone looking to find financial, economic, or demographic data, as well as social datasets.

Finweb Heavily American resource. Contains links to economics magazines as well as other useful financial information.
Money Extra UK site aimed at personal finance. Information on the stock market, insurance, rates, savings, tax & currencies. Includes a daily business news service.
United States Securities and Exchange Commission For access to the EDGAR database for company information and reports on those based in the US.
UK Treasury Search economic information, news, budget news, initiatives, guidance, etc.
INFER - International Network for Economic Research A not-for-profit organisation which supports research in economics. Has extenisive list of publications and working papers to read.

Association of Chartered Certified Accountants Accountants specialising in medium sized companies. This site contains recent articles on tax-related issues.
Institute of Chartered Accountants: Library Redesigned site with extensive/detailed collection of links. Also contains some full text coverage, reading lists and links to their professional library catalogue (Which includes searching for books and abstracted journal articles).
CIMA: Chartered Institute of Management Accountants  News from the sector and information for members and prospective members.
CIPFA: Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy News and events information as well as details of the training and certification offered to members.
Financial Reporting Council The role of the Council is to issue and set new standards. Inc. news, publications, research, summaries of standards.

British Retail Consortium Trade association for the retail industry in the UK.
National Retail Federation Trade association site for the retail industry in the United States. Contains news and industry information with an American slant.
Market Watch American site, part of the Wall Street Journal digital network. Contains news articles about major retailers from around the world along with commentary and analysis.

UNESCO Website for UNESCO World Heritage providing information on the protection of sites of cultural and historical importance around the world.
ICOMOS - International Council on Monuments and Sites Information and newsletters from the Councils as well as PDF links to their publications.
Access All Areas A key magazine for the events industry, published 10 times a year. Free to read but you must register as a subscriber.
Event Magazine A monthly magazine for the event management professional. Includes news, articles and case studies. Free to read but you must register first.
Visit Britain Corporate version of the Visit Britain sites, with links to global and UK tourism statistics as well as the quarterly Tourism Trends newsletter.
2012 London Olympics Official site of the 2012 Olympic Games. News, blogs and photos of the London games.
Event Solutions US published magazine covering event and meeting management plus incentives.
Sport England Website for the government agency which aims to create a successful community sport system in the UK. Links to news, events and the PDF of 'Sport England Strategy' document.
UK Sport Accountable to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport this agency aims to encourage elite sporting success and is funded by the National Lottery. Go through to the Information Zone for access to their publications, including their Annual Reviews.
World Tourism Organisation Part of the United Nations, this website contains news and features related to issues in world tourism.

Examples of Past Masters Dissertations

To view past examples of Masters Level Dissertations, which achieved a good mark, go to the UEL online repository - ROAR

If you are off-campus, you will have to log in with your UEL details.  Select Browse by School on the main menu and the Student Showcase at the bottom.  Choose the year 2013 to view 24 dissertations from last year – please note, there are presently only one year's worth of past examples.
