If you log directly into ATHENS ( rather than accessing the databases via the Library web pages, the list of databases shown will look different. This is because the ATHENS list is not UEL specific. It listsall the databases for which ATHENS provides authentication. Do not be confused by this; headings may vary slightly, but once you have accessed the particular database you wish to search, the screen should look familiar.

Online Databases

Basing your assignments on good, reliable sources is critical to achieving a good mark for your work. We subscribe to a number of databases which hold full text access to a large amount of academic articles and research for you to use. It is also vital that you reference your work correctly so please see the library link to 'Cite Them Right' Referencing for more information.

News, business links, the confederation's own journal, and information on current business issues.

Companies House
Official government site for UK companies. Contains information and advice as well as a link to the Companies Act 2006.

Department for Business, Innovation and Skills
Information on its activities & resources; exports & investment; business support; regulatory guidance; science & industry; & economic competition.

Institute for Fiscal Studies
Large amount of published information available on a range of business-related issues. Contains links to its research centre.

Annual Reports Service
Free service providing annual reports from UK companies, many via email to your desktop.

The Cherie Blair Foundation
Site contains some useful resources to female entrepreneurship and women in business.

BBC Country Profiles
Links to country profiles from around the world, including historical, political and economic information.

Office For National Statistics
Useful site map and links to other associated organisations.

UK Trade and Investment
UK Trade and Investments for information on UK business exporting abroad.

Transparency International
This site can help you find corruption figures for nearly every country in the world. This is particularly useful if you are studying corporate responsibility and governance.

Quandl is a free to use repository of time-series data. It is especially relevant to anyone looking to find financial, economic, or demographic data, as well as social datasets

Includes useful press releases and statistical information.

Heavily American resource. Contains links to economics magazines as well as other useful financial information.

Money Extra
UK site aimed at personal finance. Information on the stock market, insurance, rates, savings, tax & currencies. Includes a daily business news service.

United States Securities and Exchange Commission
For access to the EDGAR database for company information and reports on those based in the US.

UK Treasury
Search economic information, news, budget news, initiatives, guidance, etc.

INFER - International Network for Economic Research
A not-for-profit organisation which supports research in economics. Has extenisive list of publications and working papers to read.

Accountants specialising in medium sized companies. This site contains recent articles on tax-related issues.

Institute of Chartered Accountants: Library
Redesigned site with extensive/detailed collection of links. Also contains some full text coverage, reading lists and links to their professional library catalogue (Which includes searching for books and abstracted journal articles).

CIMA: Chartered Institute of Management Accountants
News from the sector and information for members and prospective members.

CIPFA: Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy
News and events information as well as details of the training and certification offered to members.

Financial Reporting Council

British Retail Consortium

National Retail Federation
