Research
- The current collection does not fully support the research needs of staff and research students.
- There is an interlibrary loan service which supports almost all our community. Students and staff can request for materials not available in any of our Libraries.
- Students and staff have access to a number of reciprocal access and borrowing schemes. Researchers can join the SCONUL Research Extra scheme which gives staff and research students access to top UK research universities.
Examination papers
- Library and Learning Services will accept only electronic versions of past examination papers which will be made available via the LLS webpage.
- Not more than four years of past papers will be kept on the webpage.
- Access to the papers can either be restricted for on campus/ and or off campus depending on School’s preference.
- Examination papers should be sent electronically to Subject librarians who are responsible for the acquisition and management of resources.
- Subject librarians, will, in consultation with lecturers, remove examination papers, which are more than four years old from the Web.
Theses
- University regulations dictate that students deposit two copies of their PHD/MPhil/ theses to the university.
- The LLS will retain such thesis if deposited within the LLC indefinitely.
- Other Post graduate theses if deposited in the Library will be retained for five years after which it will be withdrawn and returned to the School.
- Exception will be made for some if it’s found to be in very heavy demand.
- An example will be Architecture which will be retained for 7 years.
- Subject librarians are responsible for the acquisition and management of the theses.
- As part of our interlibrary loan service, theses can be obtained for users from the British Library.
Dissertation - undergraduate
- Library and Learning Services will accept, and should be sent only those undergraduate dissertations which lecturers consider to be of outstanding merit.
- These will be retained by the Library for a maximum of five years, after which they will be discarded.
- In cases of heavy usage, the Library will consider retaining the dissertation for longer than five years.
- Subject librarians are responsible for the acquisition and management of the dissertations.
Access
- All theses and dissertations will be on restricted access only.
- Students will need to give 24 hour notice before any theses can be borrowed.
- Access is only for UEL students and may not be borrowed by external borrowers.
