Urban Ruins: City Life with Urbicide

Professor Marshall Berman, Political Science at City University of New York

Marshall Berman, distinguished Professor of Political Science at City University of New York, will be visiting the University of East London to give the 2010 Annual Lecture for the Centre for Cultural Studies Research.

Professor Berman’s speech, Urban Ruins: City Life with Urbicide, will explain the phenomena of ‘urbicide’ – the distinct for of violence against the built environment.

His work examines the evolution of urban New York, the history and significance of Times Square and the destruction of South Bronx in the 1970s.

Professor Berman is also the author of All That is Solid Melts Into Air, Adventures in Marxism, The Politics of Authenticity and most recently On the Town.
