Understanding the Olympic Marketplace

Guests speakers include:

The Olympic Games generate over $20 billion in a 4 year cycle. Host cities add to that sum when staging the summer and winter Olympics. Understanding the special nature of this Olympic Marketplace is important both for businesses and for young people who seek to make the Olympic movement part of their personal development or professional career.

Jo Leslie works for VisitBritain, the agency charged with promoting Britain as a tourist destination. She is a well known tourism consultant who developed the tourism strategy for London 2012.

Richard Mendes is CEO of Sports Management Limited. His company has supplied services to a number of mega events including the Sydney Olympic Games. He has conducted a study of organisation of the games and the implications for business.

Dr Iain MacRury is Director of the London East Research Institute (LERI) at UEL. Amongst other work led LERI’s work for the London Development Agency on the Olympic legacy.
