An afternoon of lectures, poetry and discussion

Bernard Forrester, co-ordinator of Special Collections at Texas Southern University, will present and discuss the educational context of The Heartman Collection of African American Life and Culture, one of the oldest historical collections on the African diaspora in the world. Archival documents from the collection will be shown alongside examples from UEL's own archives celebrating black achievement in the arts.
Poetry readings by ShortMAN and Michelle Marie Discussion: Why, in celebrating black achievement, is it still important to study the history of the African slave trade and slavery?
Admission is FREE and light refreshments will be served after the event.
