Library and Learning Services (LLS)

The Library and Learning Services (LLS) Department provides high quality library and information services to support the current and anticipated requirements of staff and students. At the four Library and Learning Centres (Libraries) resources include books, journals, videos/DVDs and electronic resources as well as IT and media facilities. One of the LLS Centres is located in Duncan House. It has extensive resources covering in particular Law and Business.

IT Services

IT Services deliver a wide range of information and computing-related services to the University's students and staff.

Computer Laboratories

Approximately 1,260 computers are available for student use across our campuses.  Each Learning Resource Centre has a large number of open-access computers, many of which are available 24 hours a day during teaching weeks. Other computer laboratories are available until 9pm in the evening Monday to Friday when not in use for teaching.  Please check the individual room timetable.  General use computing laboratories are located in Docklands East building and Multi-media Production Centre, Duncan House, University House and the Arthur Edwards Building.

Help Desk

Our IT Help Desk Staff are based in rooms LD0229 (Docklands), DH003 (Duncan House) and UH263 (Stratford). We are open Monday to Friday from 9am 9pm (term time) and Monday to Friday 9am-5pm (non term time).

At any of the Help Desks you can get advice and assistance regarding many of our IT related services and purchase printed copies of our free on-line software guides. Please note that your satisfaction is important to us and we are always willing to listen.

Online facilities to support your studies

Once you are registered to your programme in the School of Law you get access to a number of useful online resources such as:

UEL Direct

By logging on to UEL Direct, you can check your module registration details, update your address details on the student records system, and obtain your assessment results. Also available via UEL Direct is access to your UEL e-mail account and links to UELPlus.

Once registered at UEL, you can access UEL Direct by going to the log on screen and entering your UEL Network username and password. As with UELPlus, the username is a ‘u' followed by your student number eg, ‘u1234567'.

Initial password is your date of birth in the format ddmmyy (eg, 290482).

Electronic Databases

As a student within the School of Law , you will also be able to access a great number of online databases containing law reports, cases and online journals.

Students with Disability/Dyslexia

The University of East London has at least one member of staff in each School and Service who has responsibility for all disability/dyslexia matters. The name and contact details of these staff are usually given on School and Service Department noticeboards and course handbooks and study guides. We have disability/dyslexia staff at each main site, and can offer technological, practical or financial support; advice and guidance, and liaison with tutors and other staff.

The university is striving to ensure that all of its premises and facilities are accessible in the widest sense. Duncan House is accessible for students with mobility problems. There is a lift to access all levels of the building, including business school and the library.

Marianne Dyer offers guidance, advice and support for students with disabilities at Duncan House.

Office hours:

  • Every Thu 9 - 5pm in Room DH 046b.
  • You have to book an appointment in advance, which is up to 1 hour.
  • There are also quick queries or drop-in sessions available on Thu from 12-1pm. Please note these sessions are for 10 mins maximum.
  • Mon, Tue, Wed, and Fri services are available in Stratford, Artillery House

English Language Centre for International Students

The UEL English Language Centre offers a number of English courses for international students. They provide a welcoming and professional learning environment with experienced and well qualified staff. They run different courses for both current and future UEL students.
