The module is intended for students who have limited previous knowledge of Chinese Mandarin and/or who have completed Chinese Mandarin Language and Culture 1.1 or equivalent. It will further students’ knowledge of the Chinese language and culture. The module will broadly achieve an outcome at level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The module aims:
To provide students with the elementary grammatical structures and vocabulary of the language and elementary skills in all four key language skills: writing, speaking, listening and reading at level A2.
To increase knowledge of the culture, customs and society of France to help students to further their awareness of the cultural and social background of the language.
Core teaching takes place through Chinese Mandarin language and study skills workshops with an emphasis on student-to-student interaction and all student participation.
In addition, there will be guided reading and directed study to enable students to prepare for and reinforce class input and develop autonomous learning strategies. UEL Plus will also be used to complement contact sessions and workshops whereby additional information and resources can be made available electronically and on-line discussions between students and tutors can be held.
