In response to staff and student concerns that the University is wasting energy by leaving computers on when they are not needed IT Services has been working with the Environment team to implement PowerMan on all of our computers. Starting after the 5th of March this will enable us to turn off machines that are not being used and save energy. Also if you accidentally forget to log off before you leave PowerMan is smart enough to know that you are not using the computer and will log you out in order to prevent anyone else from using your account.
PowerMan has been configured to act in different ways depending on the time of day. Office hours are defined as being between 08:00 and 21:00

Existing remote desktop users are advised that as a result of these changes you will need to contact the IT Service Desk and confirm the hostname of your computer, otherwise it will be switched off when left on after office hours.
