Our systems are configured so that you must regularly change and update your password these measures are for your protection because personal infromation such as your home address and financial transactions, such as the payment of tuition fees via UEL Direct, take place from your account.

What does a Secure Password consist of?

It should be a minimum of six characters and include characters from at least three of the following four categories:

  • UPPER Case Letters (ABCD, etc)
  • lower case letters (abcd, etc)
  • Numbers (1234567890)
  • Characters/symbols ( ({}[],.<>;:'"?/|`~!@#$%^&*()_-+=)

Note: Do Not Use: £ or ¬ as they don’t work.

Can you give an example of a secure password?

An example of a secure password would be Hello5 or I*Love^Cake!.

I have difficulty remembering my secure password. Can I write it down?

Please try not to do this. Instead, we recommend that you use your initial password to log into the system and then change it to something that you can easily remember. If you have to write it down, ensure it is in a safe place and separate from your user ID.

How do I change my password from within UEL?

  1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, You will see a Windows Security dialog box
  2. Then click on 'Change Password'
  3. The Change Password dialog box appears, which give you the opportunity to change your password, it will have 3 empty text boxes
  4. Type in your present password in the top box and type in your new password in the two remaining boxes. Then Click 'OK'
  5. A dialogue box appears saying ‘your password has changed successfully’.

Can I change my password from inside and outside UEL?

1. Register with our Password Recovery System. This can be done on any desktop computer on campus by selecting Start, University Menu, Password Recovery or by following this step-by-step guide

NOTE: Please avoid attempting to change your password via Outlook Webmail as it can be unreliable

Can I have one password for all my logins (UEL Network Login, UEL Direct and Web mail)?

Yes, they are all synchronised through UEL Direct.
