Passwords
These measures has been put in place for your protection, as financial
transactions such as payment of tuition fees via UEL Direct can now
take place from your account.
How do I log on to the Network on the PC’s?
- Log on to the system using your Student Number from your Student ID card and
your initial Password, which is your date of birth in the format (dd-mmm-yy
).
The Student Number must be preceded by a u in lower case. In the example below
the student, ID is 0123456 and the date of birth is 1st of April 1980.
- USERNAME: ‘u’ (Student
Number) e.g. u0123456
- PASSWORD: Date
of Birth e.g. 01-apr-80

- IT organises ‘Introduction Classes’ for new students, as well as ‘Workshops’ for
Microsoft applications which are available for all students. Click here for more details
What is the correct UEL login password format?
- Your username will be the letter ‘u’(in lower case) followed
by your student number E.g. u0123456. The password should comply with the
Secure Password Policy.
What does the complex password consist of?
- Minimum length of 6 characters
- Must consist of a least three of the following 4 categories
- UPPER Case Letters
- lower case letters
- Numbers (1234567890)
- Special characters such as punctuation and symbols. ({}[],.<>;:'"?/|`~!@#$%^&*()_-+=)
Can you give an example of a secure password?
- An example is 12-apr-84, Hello5 or cake=12.
I cannot remember my secure password. Can I write it down?
- I.T services do not advise you to write down your Password. We recommend
that you use your initial password to log into the system and change
it to something that you can easily remember (following the Secure
Password Policy).

If you have to write it down, please make sure that you keep it in
a safe place and separate from your user ID.
How do I change my password from within our University?
Can I change my password from outside our university?
Can I have one password for all my logins (UEL Network
Login, UEL Direct, WEBCT and Web mail)?
- Yes, all the above login passwords are synchronised through
UEL Direct.
