We provide a large range of IT related facilities and computing including Telephone, Network & Desktop Systems and Audio Visual. We also offer a wide range of software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Internet Access and Email) You can gain access to all of these facilities by logging on to the universities network by using your personal account name (student number).

Approximately 1,271 computers are available for student use across our campuses. Our Trading Floor and each Library has a large number of open-access computers, many of which are available 24 hours a day during teaching weeks. Other computer facilities are available until 9pm Monday to Friday when not in use for teaching. Please check the individual room timetable. General use computer suites are located in Docklands in the Business School on the Trading Floor, in the AVA Building and the Multi-Media Production Centre. They are also at Duncan House, University House.
Audio Visual equipment has been installed in 49 teaching rooms at Docklands, Stratford and Duncan House during the early part of this year. The aim is to provide 'walk in, switch on and use' Audio Visual facilities, for commonly used equipment, without the need for a visit to the IT Support counters. Internal telephones are available in each room to facilitate communications with IT, Facilities and Security staff.
All rooms are fitted with:
Larger room have been fitted with a video projector projecting onto a 8' drop down screen and controlled from a lectern fitted with interactive panel. Smaller rooms contain a video projector projecting onto a centrally mounted 72" interactive whiteboard, with the equipment mounted in an equipment rack.
Instructions have been placed in every room and IT support staff will be available to provide assistance where necessary. Staff development to enable teachers to make full use of the interactive features of the new equipment, will be advertised shortly.
All calls should be logged with the IT Helpdesk where the problem will be assessed over the telephone. If the problem cannot be solved in this way due to a physical problem (e.g. memory or hard disk fault) the call will then be logged and the problem will be booked onto our Heat system. The Co-ordinator at the relevant site will then assess the job list and delegate to the relevant technician. Technicians are based on all sites.
Computer rooms are also updated and repaired by our technical support staff.
Network and Desktop Systems are responsible for the infrastructure of the University of East London's voice and data network systems, for the administration of central fileservers and UNIX hosts, for network security and for external networking such as Internet and SUPERJANET, and for the telephone systems and switchboard.
Staff in this area are involved in developing and implementing a wide range of strategic IT initiatives. They are also responsible for the development and support of desktop operating systems and applications.
Student residences at Docklands & Barking are wired to the University network enabling the connection of your own computer to the University network. Access to a limited version of the UELXP desktop is available together with free internet access and email. To take advantage of this service you must have a suitable network card installed on your computer. These can be purchased from the IT Help Desks at each site. Unfortunately this service is currently unavailable to Mac users but a limited connection to the internet can be set up. Please contact the Multi-Media Production Centre or the IT Help Desk for details.
