UEL Password Recovery Service

The UEL Password Recovery Service is a method for users of the UEL Network to reset their own network login password or unlock their account via the web.

The UEL Password Recovery Service is accessed via a link from the IT Services section of the UEL Web Page, making this service available to remote users as well as those on campus (see notes below on how to access the service).

Before you can use the UEL Password Recovery Service to reset your password or unlock your locked account, you must register to use the service.  Registering is a one-time, on-line process where you select your personal choice of three security questions from the offered alternatives and then provide your own personal, memorable answers for three questions.  These security questions and your answers are encrypted and stored with your login account details so no-one else can ever access your answers.

Obviously, to carry out the initial registration process you will need to be able to login to the network using your valid username and password, but once registered you will be able to choose a new password or unlock your locked network account using just your username and the answers to your  three personal security questions.  You would be able to do this securely even if you are accessing the network remotely over the internet since the UEL Password Recovery Service web site is hosted on a secure server (using https:)  which encrypts the data passing across the public network.

All users are encouraged to complete the simple on-line registration process at their earliest opportunity - please don’t wait until you’ve forgotten your password or it has expired, because you will not be able to reset it yourself unless you have previously registered and completed the security questions.  The procedure is very straightforward and you are prompted and guided through the process.

Once you have previously registered, then should you ever find that your password has expired or you have forgotten it, or you account has become locked due to invalid login attempts, you can simply access the UEL Password Recovery Service from any publicly available web browser.  By entering your valid username you will be prompted with your three personal security questions and , providing you enter answers which match your registered answers, you will be able to enter a new password or unlock your account; you will be offered the appropriate choices depending on the circumstance.
