MSc Civil Engineering (2009)

I never thought I would find a home away from home when I decided to do my studies in London. But that is exactly what happened from day one at UEL. I knew I was going to be a part of something special after the interview I had in Sri Lanka with Prof. D. C. Wijeyesekera to gain entrance to UEL.

Staff at UEL have been very friendly and corporative. The academic staff of School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering has helped me in every possible way to achieve my goals. A special mention should be made about my personal tutor Prof. D. C. Wijeyesekera who has been a pillar of strength to me. My experience at UEL wouldn’t have been the same without his guidance, supervision and support.

There is a strong Sri Lankan presence at UEL. In 2007, under the guidance and support of Prof. DC, myself together with two of my colleagues Amrith Weerasekera and Suresh Gunasekera organized a Sri Lankan New Year Festival at UEL, which helped bring Sri Lankans as well as other fellow students closer. Sri Lankan Society was awarded the best Society at UEL in 2007 and I won a personal award from the Student Union.

On a recommendation given by Prof DC I managed to secure a paid internship at a company based at “Knowledge Dock” UEL during my bachelors, from which I learnt many valuable lessons which I can carry forward once I finish my studies at UEL.

I am currently reading for my MSc in Civil Engineering at UEL and hope to graduate in June 2009.
