The UEL Going Global Scheme

Going Global

The UEL Going Global Scheme is an exciting new programme that is aimed at UK students to take part in short visits outside the UK which are related to your UEL modules.

Many of our students find it difficult for various reasons to take up opportunities to travel overseas for a whole semester or year on an Exchange or Study Abroad placement. If that means you, then the Going Global Scheme is an excellent way to integrate overseas mobility into your studies.

The Going Global scheme enables you to apply for part-funding to undertake short overseas travel periods as part of your course, similar to a field-trip. or short work placement. A short overseas study visit may be an ideal way for you to integrate an international dimension to your degree. Experience of studying/working in an international setting is an increasingly desired attribute that employers look for in job applicants, and your CV will look great when it includes an overseas academic element.

Going Global is intended for mobility periods of a few days to a couple of weeks that will tie in with your studies at UEL. For instance, if your studies, practice or research on a particular module would benefit from a visit to a particular institution, venue, event, city or country and if you can demonstrate learning outcomes relevant to your modules then Going Global can help you. Likewise, you might anticipate a group project that could involve a group bid.

There are two types of bid applications

  1. Individual bids from students, where you research, create and propose your very own overseas mobility to be approved by your Programme Leader - these will be given priority by the judging panel;
  2. Group bids where you can get together with a small group of your student colleagues and conceive and formulate the whole bid yourselves with approval from your Programme Leader, or they can be wholly devised by your School

Individual bids will be given priority, and funding is limited, so you need to be proactive and think really creatively, research costings thoroughly, and demonstrate your learning outcomes and how they fit in with your module studies. Your Programme Leader and your School's International Champion can advise you on your proposed project, but the bid must be your work.

Applications for Going Global can be accepted by the International Office until November 15th, 2011. Applications sent to the International Office after November 15th will not be considered. The panel will make decisions on bids on an ongoing basis.
