Costs

Tuition Fees

The UEL Study Abroad tuition fee covers the tuition costs of three UEL Undergraduate modules (classes) in one semester. There is no part-time route for Study Abroad. You must take three modules to be a full-time student.

Tuition fees for direct International Exchange students are £0.00. You just pay your own tuition fees as normal at your home university or college.

Tuition fees for non-exchange International Students and EU Students are £4,950 per semester in 2012/13.

Students from particular UEL partner institutions outside the European Union are entitled to a 20% tuition fee discount. Please check with your own International Office/Study Abroad Office to find out if you are entitled to this discount.

Accommodation

Accommodation is available in our stylish and modern halls of residence at a price of around £110.70 - £146.50 per week in 2012/13. All rooms are en-suite and have a high-speed internet connection, and telephone line for incoming calls. Find out more about our accommodation options.

Insurance

All students must have adequate insurance before leaving their home country.  The insurance policy must cover the cost of repatriation to your home country in the case of serious illness or injury. We can not recommend particular insurance policies or companies but there are lots to choose from which are good value for money. Information on healthcare can be found here.

Other Costs

Other factors you may want to budget for include travel, books, food and drink, clothing, leisure activities and incidental costs. You may want to budget for another £2,000 for one semester in addition to your accomodation and tuition fee.

Term Dates

Our Study Abroad programme has two intakes. You can either study from September to January or January to June, or all year from September.

Exams for the first semester usually take place in January.

INDUCTION

Please note that exams will be finished by the end of week 32. If you do not have any other Assessment deadlines after this date, you are free to leave campus, but will have to pay for the duration of your contract if you are staying in UEL accomodation.

How to Apply

To apply, please complete an Study Abroad Application form and return it to the International Office by post (we do not accept emailed applications) along with your transcripts showing grades obtained at your home institution, and a letter of nomination from your home institution. Any documentation must be in English. This form is to be used whether you will be a fee-payer or if you have been selected to take a place as a direct International Exchange student.

If you are from a non-English speaking country, you would normally also need to provide evidence of your English Language proficiency as well. For example, IELTS 6.0 overall: 6.0 writing and speaking, and 5.5 reading and listening; TOEFL 81+ overall: 19 listening, 20 reading, 22 speaking and 20 writing. Students from several non-English speaking countries would normally have taken English to the required standard in High School, in which case they would not need a further English qualification (subject to their grades). See below for acceptable English Language qualifications from non-English speaking countries:

COUNTRYQUALIFICATION OF ENGLISH LANGUAGEMINIMUM GRADE
ALL IELTS 6.0
ALL TOEFL ibt 81
AUSTRIA High School Matura Grade 1 or 2
DENMARK Upper Secondary School Grade 8

Performing Arts students may be asked to provide an audition piece on CD, or uploaded to a webspace of your choice.

All Study Abroad students need to be in good academic standing at their home institution, with overall results above the pass mark.
