Ranesh Anthony, Sri Lanka, MSc Civil Engineering

Ranesh Anthony

I never thought I would find a home away from home when I decided to do my studies in London. But that is exactly what happened, from day one at UEL I knew I was going to be a part of something special. Staff at UEL have been very friendly and cooperative. The academic staff of School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering has helped me in every possible way to achieve my goals. My personal tutor Prof. D. C. Wijeyesekera who has been a pillar of strength to me. My experience at UEL wouldn’t have been the same without his guidance, supervision and support. There is a strong Sri Lankan presence at UEL and the Sri Lankan Society was awarded the best Society at UEL in 2007 and I won a personal award from the Student Union for my involvemennt. On a recommendation given by Prof DC I managed to secure a paid internship at a company based at “Knowledge Dock” UEL during my bachelors, from which I learnt many valuable lessons which I can carry forward once I finish my studies at UEL.

 Ploy

Ms Kanaporn Suwanaparata (Ploy), Thailand, MSc Architecture: Computing and Design

UEL offers me a very interesting course which in my opinion, will give me a good opportunity in my future career. Actually, there are not many universities in London open to this kind of subject. My programme is a unique course and I have been studying with experts (tutors) from outside. UEL provides me with the effective facilities to support my study and living on campus motivates me much more to study. I do enjoy my life here, I have a good time here, getting to know new people and it's convenient to do research in the library. I have plan to apply for the Post Study Work Visa for staying in the UK longer because I would like to gain more practical experience.

Dania Schmitz , Brazil, BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy

Dania Schmitz, Brazil, BSc Physiotherapy

My course started in September 2008 and during the period I have been at UEL my experience has been great. The course program is based on real experiences and you are stimulated since day one to think as a professional. It is really part of the University’s methodology to put the students in charge of their own learning and that has brought me discipline and responsibility. Besides that, UEL is very well prepared to receive International students, there is heaps of student support, from accommodation, facilities, advice, counselling and help on academic writing and other issues that might arise during the course. UEL for me has been a place for personal and professional growth, the experiences I’ve had so far and the ones that are ahead of me, am I sure will make me a well qualified professional and the friends I’ve made here will accompany me through life.

Yiran Wu, China, BA (Hons) Graphic Design

Yiran Wu, China, BA Hons Graphic Design

I transferred to UEL as a 3rd year student. I feel that although the level and subject area are the same as my previous institution, UEL's AVA school offers more design practice and experience. I have learnt a lot within a year which has allowed me to widen my vision, build upon my design skills and ability. The tutors and professors at UEL are very friendly, warm and patient. They teach a combination of traditional design concepts and modern contemporary design which allows more freedom for students to develop. The interaction with academics allows us to discover our favourite design work and learn how to develop our own style.

Fei Moon Manheche

Fei Moon Manheche , Mozambique , BSc (Hons) Extended Electrical Engineering

One of the reasons I chose UEL is because my father studied here, and as a child, I remember going with him to the university. Now I’ve chosen to do my degree in the same place as he did! When I complete my degree I hope to gain some work experience in the UK and then take my knowledge back home and help my country develop. Life at UEL is great, I enjoy meeting new people from different cultures, and London itself is great! It is a really worthwhile experience!

Kiray Khoury , Lebanon , PhD in Media

Kiray Khoury

I finished my MA degree in Film, Video, and New Screen Media from UEL in October 2006. I was then accepted to do my PhD degree. I really enjoyed my MA studies at UEL, where I met many people from many different countries. I went back home to Lebanon initially after my Masters, with my MA certificate and a phonebook full of contacts from all over the world! UEL has made my MA dream come true and now I am achieving my PhD dream as well. I found out about UEL through the international office in Beirut where I applied and was accepted. I have now recommended UEL to two of my classmates in Lebanon who also want to study and live in London. The teaching, facilities and campus at UEL are first class, and Central London is close by. I would like to thank UEL for giving me the opportunity to broaden my knowledge, learn about other cultures and live in an exciting environment!

James Lati, Uganda, MBA programme

UEL was recommended to me by my sister and her husband who both did their Masters degrees here. The most enjoyable aspect about studying at UEL is the availability of excellent facilities and study resources both in class and around campus. There is also a fantastic multicultural atmosphere. I would definitely recommend studying a postgraduate programme at UEL to enhance future career development.

Sachiko Nishimura , Japan , UG Associate Programme in Psychology

Sachiko Nishimura

I am currently studying on the 'bridging' programme in Psychology, which is between the BSc and MSc. I was attracted to UEL for various reasons including the flexibility of a February start, and UEL's location close to Central London but distant enough to be calm. I previously worked in international marketing in Japan and did my undergraduate degree in New York so I know what living in big cities can be like. UEL is ideal! To me, the two campuses represent London - Stratford has charming historic buildings, while Docklands is very 21st century. The teaching and IT facilities. and 24/7 library are excellent, and the student accomodation where I stay is very modern and peacuful. I enjoy the views over the water to Canary Wharf, and I am enjoying mixing with so many different people from different countries. The teaching in the UK is different to my previous studies, here, we are expected to formulate our own opinions and conduct our own research much more, which is mind expanding. The support services at UEL are great. The international office really looks after us students - i have met many new people on the trips they arrange to other cities. I like the vibrant atmosphere at UEL and hope to continue studying here next year on the MSc in Psychology, after which I want to have my own business.

 Abiola Olufayo

Abiola Olufayo, Nigeria, BEng Civil Engineering student

After researching about 15 Universities during a summer visit in the UK, I finally decided upon UEL. The fantastic design and construction of the campus, the well equipped laboratories, self help technology at the library and, most importantly, the reception of staff and students was really impressive - it just felt like home. My brother is now also planning to do his postgraduate studies here in September.

Fahd Khaldi , Morocco , MA Media Studies

Fahd Khaldi

After being awarded a Chevening Scholarship, I chose to study on UEL's MA Media Studies as it offers the ideal balance of practical and theoretical work. I also chose UEL because of its high standard of education and attractive location in London. My experience here has definitely been a rewarding one. The warm and friendly welcome I received when I first arrived, the excellent quality of teaching, the energetic student life and the vibrant atmosphere on campus have all made my time here very satisfying. The long list of excellent facilities and services includes a state of the art brand new library and multimedia equipment, helpful online resources, a careers advisory and employability unit and a variety of other useful personal and learning support services. There are also great social opportunities both on campus and in London. I am glad I made the choice to become part of UEL's global community while also making important steps towards my future career.

Janice Tagoe, MBA, Ghana

Janice Tagoe

I have been engaged in higher education studies at UEL since February 2003. Having graduated from here on my BA Business Studies programme, I decided to return to take my MBA last year. What I find most pleasurable regarding studying at UEL is the library facilities and the staff and students I get to talk to whilst in the library. The open door policy of the lecturers also increases the joy of studying here. Studying business at UEL has broadened my experience and challenged my understanding of the business world through the numerous examples cited during lecture delivery and case studies used in seminars to supplement the teaching process. I plan to start my own International Recruitment business in Ghana once I finish my MBA.

Maureen Cupid, Saint Vincent, BA (Hons) Criminology with Psychology

I am a Prison Officer in St. Vincent, and I chose to study a combined honours programme in Criminology with Psychology to progress my career. I am dedicated to helping the legal and penal systems in my country develop, and have taken a three year career break to study at UEL. I am possibly the first person in my country to do this. I chose UEL because of the flexibility of its combined programmes, because i was allowed to start in February, and because i have family in East London. My course is enlightening and has opened my eyes to different ways of working within the penal system. I am delighted with my time at UEL so far - the teaching, the library and IT are excellent. I am involved in a study group with some other students from various countries. My only difficulty is getting used to all the abbreviations used in my studies! I have been made to feel very welcome at UEL, from being collected at the airport to orientation week to all the fantastic activities available to international students. I would recommend UEL to anyone wishing to study in the UK.

Belmond Chia, Malaysia, BSc (Hons) Surveying and Mapping Sciences

UEL has given me the opportunity to make my vision and dreams come true. The joy of studying and expressing views freely, without discrimination, allows you to be the best you can be and excel - as long you're willing to work on it! Plus, lecturers are always helpful and give guidance and understanding when you need it the most. My programme is recognized internationally has the most update range of modern of surveying equipment that I've ever been able to have access to. UEL not only educates you, but brings the world’s culture to your doorstep - I've met more people from around the world and different walks of life on UEL’s campus than on any holiday abroad!
