Welcome Programme Team with UEL Sports Dock September 2014

Welcome & Orientation:

  • 10.am: Start - Welcome Address & Orientation Location: Main Lecture Theatre (MLT) in the Royal Docks Business School (RDBS) at Docklands Campus        
  • 1pm: Lunch: followed by some free time
  • Afternoon & Evening: Social activties

The day is designed to give you an in-depth introduction to your life in the UK and as a UEL student. There are presentations, workshops and events covering a wide range of subjects, including visa/immigration, wellbeing and English language support. There are also plenty of opportunities to meet other students through our social activities.

The day usually starts with a warm welcome from the Vice-Chancellor's Group and UEL International, as well as various introductions from important and useful services from the University such as: 

We will also provide advice about living in London, including how to open a bank account, accessing healthcare, travelling around London and how to budget whilst living in one of the most exciting cities in the world. 

Afternoon Social & Sports Activities:

In the afternoon and evening we organise a number of social activties to allow you some time to relax, meet new people and make new friends.

2pm - 4pm = MyUEL Sports for International Students (Sportsdock)

4.30pm - 6pm = International Speed Friending (Students Union Lounge)

6pm = International Drinks at The Reach Bar (traditional local, East London Pub)

Enrolment & Induction

We have a special early enrolment session for new International Students taking place on Friday 19th September. Please see our Enrolment & Induction pages for more information.

Enrolment continues in the week beginning 22nd September 2014. In the same week, local school and course inductions will take place.

Saturday 20th September - Tour of London & Greenwich.

Free tour or London and Greenwich. Leaving Docklands Campus we will head into London by coach with expert Blue Badge Tour Guides for the morning. After time for a spot of lunch, you will be transported to historic Greenwich, where you will be guided on a walking tour of the old royal village. Please arrive at 08.30 by the East Building Security Office as the coaches will leave on time 9am prompt!

This is a great opportunity to see London with well informed commentary about the life and history of our great capital city.

You will also have a chance to stop and explore certain venues on foot with your guide, before heading to historic Greenwich. You can obtain your place on this excellent tour by registering of our International Welcome Programme

Welcome Programme Review: for late arrivers


Whilst we encourage all new International Students to arrive in time for the official Welcome Programme, we will provide a review of some of the Welcome and Orientation Programme for those students who were not able to arrive in the UK in time to attend the formal Welcome and Orientation.

Details will be provided here in September 2014.

Social Activities

To help you make friends and settle in during your study in the UK, we run a number of trips and events for you to enjoy. We work closely with the Students' Union to organise plenty of activities. Join hundreds of other new students who have just arrived in the following activities:

Friday 19th September

 International Student House

  • 12pm - 4pm = International Coffee & Games (Students Union Lounge)
  • 6.00pm - late = Trip to International Students House( ISH) Social Evening in Central London 229 Great Portland Street, W1W 5PN.. To travel to ISH you will need an Oyster Card,  which you will need to buy in advance. If you are staying on campus you can buy this from John Smith's, East Building, Docklands Campus OR the newsagent (shop selling newspapers and snacks) on the main road the other side of Cyprus station. When you have enrolled you will be entitled to a student discount Oyster card - but this takes up to arrive a week arrive so you will still need to buy a normal Oyster card in the meantime. Meet outside the Students' Union Lounge at 6.00pm to travel to ISH.

Saturday 20th September

UELSU International Bollywood Night

  • 9am - 6pm = Free tour of London & Greenwich with professional tour guide for new International Students
  • Morning/afternoon = Collect your Freshers Wristbands (Freshers Marquee)
  • 5pm = Film Showing - Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Students Union Lounge)
  • 7pm = Free meal with accoustic entertainment (The Edge cafe)
  • 10pm = International Bollywood Night (Underground Bar)

Sunday 21st September

UELSU UEL Halls Party

  • Morning/afternoon = Collect your Freshers Wristbands (Freshers Marquee) 
  • 5pm = Film Showing - All Ist Lost (Students Union Lounge)
  • 8pm = Film Showing - Bad Neighbours (Students Union Lounge)
  • 10pm = UEL Halls Party (Underground Bar)

UEL International UK trips - Semester A 2014/15

UEL International, in collobaration with Proscenium Travel, have organised a number of day trips around the United Kingdom so that you can experience other great historical cities and towns.

Trips take place on Saturdays (normally depart 9am prompt from Docklands Campus) and there is a small fee:
