Pre-departure checklist

 Pre flight preparation

Please remember to...

  • Bring your passport (& keep a photocopy in another place in case you lose it)
  • Ensure that you have the correct visa
  • Bring your original qualifications documents
  • Bring a print out of your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
  • Ensure you keep all documents in hand luggage for verification upon arrival in the UK
  • Purchase travel insurance (recommended)
  • Bring your accommodation contract (if staying in UEL residences)
  • Ensure you have access to money in a safe form (i.e.travellers cheques) for everyday expenses for up to 2 weeks until you have opened a bank account. Please do not bring large amounts of cash
  • Check if you need a TB Screening by clicking here
  • Bring medical records of any pre-existing conditions (if applicable)
  • Read all information on these pages carefully

Airport Pick-up

We offer airport collection for all international and ERASMUS/exchange/study abroad students for one day only. The Airport Pick-up Service date for February 2013 enrolment is on Monday 28th January only. For more information on the Airport pick-up sevice click here. We regret that we cannot arrange airport collection on any other day. The service can be booked by signing up to the Welcome Programme.

The Airport Pick-up Service is only available for students arriving into Heathrow or Gatwick. Please make sure your flight arrives in London on this day and not the day after. We also request that where possible students book flights to arrive morning or afternoon. If requesting this service please be sure to read all the information provided on the Airport Pick-up page.

About Bedding & Clothing

If you are an international fee-paying student who is going to be living in UEL accommodation, provided you have signed up for the International Welcome Programme you will be provided with a FREE bedding pack consisting of:

  • 1 x Single Duvet
  • 1 x Pillow
  • 1 x Single Quilt Cover
  • 1 x Single Fitted Sheet
  • 1 x Pillowcase

If you require additional bedding it can be bought from the nearby shops, so you need not bring sheets, etc, with you.

Similarly, warm winter clothing can be bought in the UK at a reasonable price so it is not necessary to bring a lot of bulky winter sweaters & coats etc.

Other Useful Information

What happens after arrival at UEL?

We have a comprehensive Welcome Programme for new International students. This includes our Orientation day, completing the enrolment process, school/ course induction and many social activties and events to help you settle in and meet other students. The Welcome Programme takes place from Airport Pick-Up (for those registering for this service) on Monday 28th January all week until Saturday 2nd February when we have organised a free half day tour of London.

The following week (week beginning 4th February), classes begin but UEL International and UEL Students' Union have organised a number of events and social activities in order for you to get the most out of your time at UEL. Furthermore, throughout the rest of the semester UEL International have organised trips which will give you a chance to see other parts of England.
