Ghana Welcome Pages

UEL has a diverse student community with over 550 international students from Africa, including many Ghanaians, currently studying with us on a wide range of programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

I work in the International Office and it is my role to assist prospective students from Ghana through the admission process and with their preparations for coming to study with us in London. If you have any questions about studying at UEL or guidance on how to apply, contact me at africa@uel.ac.uk

On this page, you can read profiles from some of our current students from Ghana, information about our active alumni network and find out when UEL will next be visiting.

Anthony Dangerfield, International Development Manager

UEL's visits to Ghana

As part of my role, I also travel regularly to Ghana to meet with prospective students and current applicants and directly guide them through our admission process. I have just returned from a visit to Accra and will next be returning in October.

If it is our September admission that you are considering, I will be able to guide you via email correspondence. There is still time to join us for this next in-take, but you will now need to act quickly to make the necessary preparations.

Student Profiles

Eric Ansong

Eric Ansong, current MA International Social Work student

I decided to study at UEL because of its wealth of academic resources coupled with the modern state of the library and experienced tutors. The most enjoyable aspect about studying at UEL is the cultural diversity in the student population and the serene learning environment. After graduation, I hope to work for an international agency of some kind. I’d like to go back to Ghana and work in community and economic development.

Janice Tagoe

Janice Tagoe, current MBA International Business postgraduate student

I have been engaged in further studies at UEL since February 2003. Having graduated from here on my BA Business Studies programme, I decided to return to take my MBA last year. What I find most pleasurable regarding studying at UEL is the library facilities and the staff and students I get to talk to whilst in the library. The open door policy of the lecturers also increases the joy of studying here. Studying business at UEL has broadened my experience and challenged my understanding of the business world through the numerous examples cited during lecture delivery and case studies used in seminars to supplement the teaching process. I plan to start my own International Recruitment business in Ghana once I finish my MBA.

Hanny Kwesi Nuhu

Hanny Kwesi Nuhu, postgraduate MSc Biotechnology student

The module content of my programme will enable me to acquire the skills I need for a world-class biotech career but UEL offers me more than just a fulfilling academic student experience. The ability to communicate and understand people of all cultural backgrounds together with the skills I have acquired in the laboratory and class should be a real benefit for future professional, personal and academic endeavours.

Stanley Opoku-Yeboah

Stanley Opoku-Yeboah, current engineering undergraduate student

I enjoy the fantastic facilities at UEL as well as the friendly nature of staff. The University is rich in recourses for engineering and technology. Apart from its wide range of courses and modules in engineering, there is enough equipment to support each program of specialisation. The University has a diverse student community and I am happy to see almost all nationalities in the world at UEL. I have also enjoyed the assistance of the employability unit in mentoring programs and workshops.

Gerald Dagher

Gerald Dagher, current Accounting and Finance undergraduate student

I decided to study at UEL because it's one of best modern universities in the UK. There is a good on-campus atmosphere and the University provides a high quality of education. My sister is joining me at UEL in September to study BSc Public Health.

Ghana Alumni Network

Our active alumni group in Ghana provides excellent social and networking opportunities for our graduates returning home after their studies. As well as meeting regularly throughout the year, UEL hosts an annual reunion dinner. The last reunion took place in October 2008 and a large number of our alumni gathered at the African Regency Hotel in Accra. The event was a wonderful opportunity to see old friends, make new ones, network, socialise and reminisce about their time at UEL. Our alumni had an enjoyable evening with lots of laughter and a plentiful buffet. Frances Anthony (2004 PGCE Science) said "It was wonderful seeing so many alumni of UEL... it was a good venture" and Kofi Sagoe-Payne (2006 MBA) said about the evening: "The annual dinner was perfect. Thanks for everything"
