International Admissions Procedures

Applications from international applicants are processed by our International Admissions office. Step by step guide is outlined below:

  • Complete the UEL application form accurately and in full providing relevant information about your educational history and demonstrating logical progression from your previous academic studies. Your personal statement needs to outline why you are applying for your chosen programme, what you hope to achieve through your studies at UEL, how the programme is relevant to your future goals and how you feel your past/current studies and experience support your application.
  • Provide copies of relevant qualification documents.
  • Meet the University’s academic requirements, including English Language requirements.
  • Provide detailed information and related documentation about your immigration and study history if you have previously studied in the UK, on a student visa in the UK at anytime. If you are applying from within the UK, you will be asked to attend an interview with the International Office. If you have left the UK, you will be required to complete relevant forms in relation to your previous studies and send them to the International Admissions office. See Assessing Previous Studies in the UK.
  • The International Office may contact you if we require further information to assess your application or you may be asked to provide additional information as part of the conditions of your offer.
  • Pay a minimum 50% non-refundable tuition fee deposit. This deposit is only refundable if the visa application is unsuccessful and a refusal notice has been provided. Scholarship award holders and applicants for shorter courses will need to check their official International Offer Letter, as different payment methods may apply.
  • Submit the UEL online International Student Reply Form confirming that you agree to our terms of admittance including the information on our Tier 4 responsibilities.

For information on how to obtain a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), check Tier 4 CAS Requirements section.

Applicant applying from within the UK: additional requirements

If you are applying from within the UK, in addition to the requirements outlined above, international applicants who are applying from within the UK will need to:

  • Attend an interview with UEL International Office where your admission to the University and  your immigration and study history in the UK will be discussed. See Assessing Previous Studies in the UK.
  • Hold a valid UK visa that permits you to study in the UK or a valid visa that allows you to make an application for further leave to remain in the UK under Tier 4 or an application to switch to Tier 4.
  • Our International Students Advice (ISA) team are trained in Tier 4 issues who will support you through the Tier 4 visa application process, including the documents required. You will need to provide copies of the maintenance documents so that we can check they meet the specific Tier 4 requirements. A CAS will not be issued if they do not meet the specific Tier 4 maintenance requirements as this would likely lead to a visa refusal.
  • Provide a valid visa to be able to enrol at the University or evidence of submitting a valid Tier 4 student visa application to the UK Border Agency, using a CAS issued by UEL. For more information check Evidence to enrol at UEL section.

Assessing previous studies in the UK

If you have previously studied in the UK at anytime on a student visa, you will be expected to demonstrate the following in order for the University to consider sponsoring you under Tier 4:

Please note that the University cannot enrol students who have a Tier 4 visa for another sponsor.
