To enrol and study at the University of East London (UEL), you will need to provide either a valid visa which allows you to study at UEL and in the UK, or evidence of having submitted a valid Tier 4 student visa application to the UK Border Agency (UKBA) using a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) issued by UEL if you are already in the UK.
We will accept the following as evidence that you have submitted a Tier 4 student visa application to UKBA:
If you are being represented by a solicitor, please provide a letter from them confirming that they have made an in-time Tier 4 student visa application on your behalf and this will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
If you have already been studying in the UK and you applied for your existing Tier 4 visa on or after 5 October 2009, you must apply for a new Tier 4 visa with a CAS issued by UEL in order to enrol at the University providing the evidence outlined above.
If you enrol on the basis of having provided evidence that you have submitted a Tier 4 visa application, please be aware that you do so at your own risk, subject to a pending decision on your application from UKBA. You will be expected to provide the International Office with updates on your visa application, including submitting to us your biometric invitation letter. You will be required to show us evidence of your visa application decision as soon as you have received this.
If your application is unsuccessful our International Students Advice (ISA) team will advise you about the refusal and the options available to you, including appealing or making a new Tier 4 application. Please note that it is unlikely that the University would be able to support a new Tier 4 application from within the UK as it is likely that you would have become an overstayer by the time you receive an outcome on your initial application. Depending on the reasons for the refusal, we may support a new Tier 4 entry clearance visa application, and this would need to be made from overseas.
Please note that the University will not allow you to re-enrol with a Tier 4 visa for another sponsor.
If you have already been studying in the UK and your existing student visa was applied for before 5 October 2009, you must request permission from UKBA to change sponsor by submitting a Permission to Change Tier 4 Sponsor (T4 PTS) application form. You can download this form and the guidance notes from the UK Border Agency website. You will need to post this application by Special Delivery as you will be required to provide evidence of having made the application in order to complete your enrolment at UEL. Once UKBA confirm that they have given you permission to switch, you will also need to provide this evidence to the International Office so that your UEL student record can be updated.
Please note: The time spent on study at degree level by Tier 4 (General) Students is limited to five years, with some exceptions. Click here for more information.
