If you are in the London area and are in the process of welcoming a new intake of international students, note that they are welcome to join any of the events of the London International Meetup social group: http://www.meetup.com/London-International

Several events are organised each week, mainly day trips (usually by train/public transport), walks, social evenings, English classes and theatre outings. They would suit individuals who want to meet people from outside of the place they are studying, and who wish to explore British culture or improve their English.

There is no membership fee - there are just modest charges to cover the costs for each event which is joined. To join an event a person needs to join the group first (a simple online registration) and then reply Yes for that event. The group's members are from a wide range of backgrounds (not just students), nationalities (including British and other native English speakers) and ages (18 years old and above).

Photos from previous trips can be seen here: http://www.meetup.com/London-International/photos
