These pages contain information on insurance matters that are of particular concern to students.
All students at UEL are covered under the University’s Personal Accident & Travel Insurance policy while on academic placements of up to 12 months in length or other overseas travel related to the business of UEL (i.e. study abroad programmes). Students must fill in the Request for Approval to Travel form to be covered. See more information on the Travel Insurance pages and download a student synopsis of the policy and cover. For information specific to work placements, find out more here. Students are recommended to obtain a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) when travelling to other countries within Europe.
Privately owned vehicles, whether belonging to students or staff are not covered by the University’s Motor Fleet Insurance. Students wishing to use their own vehicles for University business must ensure that their own vehicle insurance covers occasional business use.
For any accidents where the University is legally liable to pay damages, students are covered under the University’s Public Liability Insurance.
Students living in halls of residence are automatically covered by Endsleigh’s Block Accomodation Insurance Policy, which covers theft or damage to property, personal accidents and various liabilities. Please familiarise yourself with the policy, www.uel.ac.uk/residential/current-students/index.htm
UEL does not provide health insurance for any students while studying at the University. However all UK students and many international students will be eligible for free treatment under the National Health Service (NHS). Please see the webpages of the UEL Health & Wellbeing team for more information and advice on taking out health insurance prior to arrival at UEL.
