UEL Liability Insurances

This page details the main Liability Insurances held by UEL. If you become aware of any incident that may lead to a claim, please read our page on Liability Claims and contact the Insurance Officer immediately.

Employers’ Liability

This policy indemnifies the University against its legal liability to members of staff, contract agency staff and volunteers working at UEL in connection with any injury suffered by them during the course of their work at the University.

Excess: Nil

Public Liability

The University’s public liability policy provides an indemnity to the University for its legal liability for injury to persons (other than employees), including children and young people, and damage to material property belonging to other persons arising in connection with the business of the University.

The policy also provides an indemnity to staff and students acting on behalf of the University for their legal liability for accident or injury to other parties.

Please note that claims made in the USA or Canada are not covered.

Professional Indemnity

The cover provided by this policy is in respect of claims which the University is legally liable to pay to third parties following breach of professional duty by reason of:

• any neglect, error or omission on the part of an employee.
• breach of warranty of authority
• breach of Intellectual Property rights
• infringement of copyright or patent right or trademark or design rights
• breach of confidential information under Data Protection Legislation

Insurer: Royal Sun Alliance (via AON)
Policy number: RKK423027/6
Limit of Indemnity: £10,000,000 (£1,000,000 for pollution, seepage and contamination)
Excess: £7,500 for each claim (£5,000 for pollution, seepage and contamination)

UEL also carries Hirer's Liability Insurance to cover injuries and other situations occurring when UEL property is hired to third parties as well as Directors and Officers Liability Insurance.
