Dealing with Health Critical Incidents at UEL

A Health Critical Incident (HCI) is a potential threat to a student, or group of students, due to an emotional or physical health problem. This may include acute mental health episodes (an extremely depressed or distressed student) or communicable diseases (e.g. meningitis or tuberculosis).

UEL’s Health Critical Incident Team is comprised of staff from the Student Health and Wellbeing team in Student Services.  The team does not replace emergency services, but aims to reduce the impact of such crises by offering support to students and staff when dealing with these situations.

If the HCI is during working hours then contact the Health Critical Incident Team directly on 020 8223 7599. Outside of working hours contact Security and emergency services in the first instance.
