UEL Student Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy

UEL is committed to the promotion of the positive mental health and wellbeing of its student community, and as such a revised UEL Student Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy is now in full operation. The policy provides information on the variety of support available to all students with any emotional or mental health difficulties and on current procedures available to staff on supporting and managing these situations where students are presented with such difficulties. View the policy on the Student Services website. For further information contact the Health and Wellbeing team.

International Student Barometer – results!

The International Student Barometer is an external survey of all international students – all years, courses and levels. The survey shows how satisfied international students are in all areas of their experience at UEL, and benchmarks us against our competitors.

UEL International is hosting a presentation by i-graduate to deliver the findings of the most recent survey (Autumn 2011):

Taking the Library with you everywhere

QR code - Ask a LibrarianLibrary and Learning Services are starting to use QR codes to publicise their services. More and more students have smart phones and LLS want to make sure library services are being used – even on the go. By scanning the QR code on the left with your smart phone’s QR reader app you will automatically be taken to the Library’s Ask a Librarian tool. So why not copy and paste this QR code into your module handbooks? By embedding this in your printed handbooks your students can ask the librarians questions on the go. Contact Simone Ngozi Okolo for more information.

It's all Spanish to me

Language class receiving their certificatesClasses run by UEL’s Language Centre have got off to a flying start. The first 80 students in Spanish, French, Chinese Mandarin and Japanese were each awarded a certificate by Language Centre Director Markus Davis last month. The courses have been a huge success and an increased number of places are planned for next semester. These free language classes are taught one evening a week throughout the semester. For more information see the Language Centre website.

Environment Team, Facilities

Are you ready for our awesome auditors?

Green ImpactDo you know where your office battery bin is kept? Are you aware of your department’s environmental policy? These are the questions our newly trained student Green Impact auditors may ask you when they audit participating Green Impact teams on 26 and 27 March. Green Impact is a fun competition to find the greenest UEL department. Using an online workbook, teams have been ticking off criteria to win bronze, silver and gold awards by adopting green practices around energy efficiency, recycling, travel, purchasing and biodiversity. So if you see students wandering around, clipboard in hand, don’t worry, they are just our awesome auditors coming to assess your progress.

A host of golden daffodils

Daffodils at Stratford CampusSpring has sprung and Wordsworth’s infamous poem captures the beautiful scene at the grounds of University House at Stratford, where the daffodils have begun to bloom. The daffodils were planted as part of UEL’s Biodiversity Action Plan. Daffodils are a native species to the UK and there are over 25,000 varieties of daffodils and they come in yellow, white, orange and even a peach/pink shade. So if you are based at Stratford Campus, or just happen to be visiting, go and take a look. Send your daffodil and ‘UEL in bloom’ photos to the Environment team.

Did you know...

UEL’s Environment team will be at the SportsDock launch day this Saturday 24 March to talk about the new green features of SportsDock.
