Environment Team, Facilities
Following months of hard work across the University, UEL was recently awarded ISO14001 certification for its environmental management. ISO14001 is an international standard that provides a framework for organisations to manage and improve their environmental performance. Being verified to this standard is an independent verification of our commitment to environmental improvement. Once again, thanks are extended to all within the UEL community who have worked hard to help UEL reach this important milestone. For the full story see bit.ly/green-uni
Thursday 19 January marks UEL’s one-year anniversary as a Fairtrade University (meaning we are committed to supporting and using Fairtrade). The Environment Team invites all of UEL to celebrate by joining us for free Fairtrade cake in the East Building Atrium on Docklands Campus. Cake will be served from 1pm until it runs out at a Fairtrade stall set up for Semester B First Week events. Look out for the Green Thing banners and a cake like the one pictured – though we hope Thursday’s cake will look even better!
Green Impact, the accreditation scheme that rewards green actions across all of UEL’s departments, is spreading across campus with 18 teams now registered to take part this year. The submission deadline of the workbook for this year’s awards is in March 2012, so if your department, School, office or corridor has not signed up yet, you can still get involved. Get inspiration from the newest edition of the Green Impact newsletter and get greening: www.uel.ac.uk/greenthing/greenimpact.htm
…that almost 97% of staff surveyed using our questionnaire at international enrolment last year recognised the Fairtrade mark, yet just over half did not know that UEL is a Fairtrade University? See the full survey results here: www.uel.ac.uk/greenthing/fairtrade/index.htm
