UEL will be unveiling a new centre for excellence in Islamic finance next week, the first of its kind to be established in London. The Centre of Islamic Banking and Finance will act as an authoritative body to both consult and research in Islamic finance, banking and insurance, addressing issues such as education, training and professional development, and industry practice. London has become the largest international centre for Islamic finance outside of the Muslim world, largely as a result of the City's role as a centre for Middle Eastern and Asian banking. Lead organiser of the event, Mohsin Ramzan, comments on the importance of the Centre’s launch: “Our goal is simple. We aim to be the UK’s leading international centre of excellence for Islamic finance; the upcoming launch will be the first step to achieving just that’’. The Centre’s official launch will take place next Tuesday 21 June at ExCel London, Royal Victoria Dock. For further details contact m.ramzan@uel.ac.uk

When it comes to health, men are notoriously bad at seeking help. Sometimes they are embarrassed, while many delay going to their GP because of the belief that if you ignore something, it will go away. In fact, the majority of health problems are easily treated, if caught early enough. Men’s Health Awareness Week is taking place all over the world this week. Find out more about the health conditions that affect men in particular by visiting bit.ly/menshealthweek
