First Week 2010 proved to be a great success with our new students. The use of innovative mobile technology at the entry points of the trading floor meant that every student who came along for their induction or for the admissions / enrolment processes was taken directly to the team they needed to see without the need for long waiting times. The main aim is to build on this new method of communication for next year's student intake in order to further enhance the UEL student experience during First Week. Mandy Estridge, Head of Student Services Helpdesk Team, said "First Week and enrolment was a great success with over 6,500 new students fully enrolled throughout the week which was a increase of 1,228 from the end of First Week 2009."
UEL also recieved some positive feedback via Twitter: '"Wow! Quickest enrolment EVER!! massive pat on the back for UEL"

UELSports were exceptionally pleased with the outcomes from their three days of Sports Fairs last week during the Fresher's Week activities. Having provided a significant amount of sporting displays and exhibitions, the UELSports clubs were able to start the sign - up process of all their new players for the forthcoming competitive season. UELSports boasts over 25 sports clubs now, with several clubs operating multiple teams (ie, rugby – two mens and one ladies, football – three mens and one ladies). At the last count football alone had over 300 men register their interest (that should make trials interesting). Several new sports clubs have started this year including Volleyball and Table Tennis. Mixed martial arts is also a new club this year, and managed to sign up 99 students on one day!! UELSports have also developed a new UEL Triathlon club, that has an ALL STAFF committee!
"We have more teams competing in the inter-University competition (BUCS) this year, than any other year in UEL history" stated David Cosford, Director of Sport. "I have a good feeling that we are going to make great strides this year, and really make other HEI in London sit up and take note!! We have some very talented students and certainly a very enthusiastic and committed group this year". It is not too late to sign up for any of the clubs, so if you are interested please contact UELSports@uel.ac.uk. Staff and students are welcome.
