News in brief

Admissions 2010 – The Story so far…

Clearing Hotline
Undergraduate Admissions
The UCAS cycle closed last week with applicants making their final choices on offers received throughout the year. As anyone involved in admissions processing will be aware, 2010 has been a record year for UEL with UCAS applications up by 31% on last year – this is well ahead of the national increase (14%) and also above our aggregate competitor group (21%). Not only have our applications increased but our acceptances are up on 2009 also – by 22%. However, we must be complacent nor forget how important the late summer recruitment drive and clearing is to us – we still have 50% of our UG Home FT numbers to recruit over August. The Student Recruitment Marketing Team will be running a pre- results hotline (020 8223 6000) from the 9 to 18 August for any students concerned about their results.

Key dates for clearing:

Wednesday 18 Aug 2010              Staff information and training sessions at Docklands
Thursday 19 Aug 2010                   A Level results published and Telephone Centre opens 8am
Friday 17 Sep 2010                        Telephone Centre closes
Monday 20 Sep 2010                     First Week commences

Last year we received over 6000 calls on Day 1 so we have more than doubled the size of the hotline team as well as increasing School desk staffing in some key areas so that we will be able to advise more applicants than ever before…

Part-time applications have also shown a good increase – up 37% on this point last year… with a further marketing push over the summer we should see good growth in this area also by the time First Week is upon us!

Postgraduate
Applications for taught postgraduate study are up 88% on this point last year – this growth is set to continue as PG applicants typically apply later for study. Applicants are also increasingly accepting the offers that we have made – 39% more than at this point in 2009.

Further information..
The In Focus on 17 Aug 2010 will be dedicated to clearing and late summer recruitment so watch this space!
