News in brief

Green Week 2010Green Week 2010 - Get Involved!

Next week (8th-12th March), an exciting range of environmental events and activities will be taking place across both campuses to celebrate Green Week. From free showings of the hit film 'Age of Stupid' to free bike maintenance, there's something for everyone. Take a look online for more details www.uel.ac.uk/greenthing/events.

We will also be launching a brand new UEL staff Environmental Champions scheme. There are plenty of people out there who are enthusiastic about environmental issues and we want to bring everyone together to raise awareness in the workplace, shape UEL policy and help change staff behaviour. If you're interested in recycling, energy saving, wildlife or any other environmental issue, please contact Sara on s.kassam@uel.ac.uk and more details will be sent out. Look forward to hearing from you!

UEL PowerchexKTP reaps dividends for the CITE led project

City based pre-employment screening company, Powerchex, recently secured a major new contract for its services which has helped double the company’s turnover on the back of a KTP project the company is partnering with CITE on. Overseen by  Haris Mouratidis, the KTP will deliver a customised, secure and automated IT infrastructure for Powerchex, designed to streamline the company’s operations.

Managing Director, Alexandra Kelly, said: “I never imagined that the KTP project, would deliver such an immediate return on our investment. Undertaking the project was a strategic manoeuvre to continue our impressive growth and more importantly to help the company deliver an outstanding level of customer service to our clients and to maintain our competitive edge”.

Active Workplace Project

UEL has been selected to take part in the Active Workplaces Project - a workplace health programme funded by the Department of Health and The Pro-Active Partnerships. This exciting project aims to develop opportunities for employees to become more physically active.

The survey will give you an opportunity to be involved in the development of a workplace health programme. The information gained from the survey will be used to develop a physical activity programme that is aimed at meeting your needs.

The results will also be used for research by the Centre for Workplace Health to analyse the impact of workplace health programmes on the health of staff.

You are being invited to take part in this survey, however, you do not have to take part if you do not wish. If you do choose to take part, no question is compulsory and your participation is voluntary. To make the evaluation a success, we need you to answer as many questions as you can. There are no right or wrong answers.

You will be asked to complete two questionnaires, one now and one in six months time. The survey will ask questions about you, your physical activity levels, and other factors that might affect your lifestyle choices and your health. The survey will take approximately 5-7 minutes to complete each time.
