Graduating students impress at Visual Arts Showcase
Hundreds students, their friends and families, attended an exciting private view of this year’s Visual Arts Degree Show at our Docklands Campus on Thursday 4 June.

East London businesses set to benefit from new environmental technologies Beginning this month, Eureka, a new £639k funded project has been launched to help small and medium sized (SMEs) enterprises in east London become more competitive by being more environmentally innovative.
A team of experts from our Sustainability Research Institute (SRI) will assist companies to access new markets, by educating them on government policy and waste recycling, and provide access to expertise in environmental technology, products and processes.
Darryl Newport, Director of the SRI, says: “In order to become more attractive to the public sector, businesses have to be more environmentally sustainable. The Sustainability Research Institute will provide a range of services for businesses that can be tailored to suit their specific needs. We have a proven track record in a wide range of areas including green product development, resource efficiency and environmental management and training."
Web Chinduta a first year BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance student has joined the Student Advisory Board of of leading publishing company Pearson's. The opportunity, which was open to first-year students nationally, required applicants to provide an outstanding CV and academic reference.
Web will attend weekend workshops at Pearson's head office in London, receive £500 plus free textbooks and travel expenses, work on projects in his own time with the support of a dedicated mentor from Pearson Education and meet Pearson Education executives to present his ideas and influence decision makers at the highest level.
Have you registered yet for UEL’s 4th Annual, Learning, Teaching and Assessment Conference, on Thursday 25 June 2009, in the West Building, Docklands Campus? This one-day Conference is free and open to all full-time and part-time staff of UEL and collaborative partners. This year the Conference will focus on how we as a university enhance our students' experience. A number of themed sessions will run during the morning and afternoon of the Conference. Themes include Inclusive Learning and Teaching, Partnership and Collaboration and the Student Voice. We are pleased to announce that Marcia Ody, from the University of Manchester will be part of a panel which gives one of the keynote addresses. Marcia Ody is Teaching and Learning Manager within the central Teaching and Learning Support Office at the University of Manchester. Marcia has responsibility for managing the ‘Students as Partners’ programme, developing institutional policy and advising strategic development. The areas of work she is currently involved in include induction and transition, developing the independent learner, peer support, student initiative, student representation and engaging students as partners in curriculum development. A big thank you goes to all those that submitted abstracts. They each made very interesting reading! Details of the themed sessions that will run at the conference are also available on the conference web pages. Session booking will be open very soon, look out for further details.

Architecture Year End Show Private View Wednesday, 24 June, 6pm – 9pm. Open to the public 25 June - 10 July. The Architecture Year End Show takes place during London’s Architecture Week. This annual event showcases the combined works of each unit within the BSc, Diploma and Masters Programmes. This show also provides an opportunity to see work by our foundation Year 0 students.
Fine Art Professional Doctorate Shows Private View Wednesday, 24 June, 6pm – 9pm. Open to public 25 - 29 June. Several solo shows running concurrently make up this exhibition. The Professional Doctorate in Fine Art is a unique practice-based Research Degree at UEL. With its greater emphasis on practice it is more appropriate for many artists than a PhD. The highly professional standard of work exhibited by the five completing artists reflects the strength of the research culture within Fine Art and the commitment of our students.
