Award-winning Foundation degree for teaching assistants Our Foundation Degree for Teaching Assistants won the Cross-organisational Partnership and Impact award at last night's London Education Partnership Awards (LEPA), held in the Science Museum's Flight Gallery. Sponsored by the Mayor of London, the Award recognised the partnership working of UEL and the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham within the Barking Learning Centre. Now in their second year, the LEPA awards celebrate partnership and innovation in widening participation. Ann Slater, Dean of our Cass School of Education said: “Once students have completed the Foundation Degree at Barking Learning Centre they go on to do the final year of their honours degree Facilitating Learning and Development. Not only does this innovative project bring learners into higher education who might find going straight to university off-putting but it also helps to provide Barking and Dagenham with trained teachers, from their own residents."
The award was collected by Jane Scawthorn, who has just completed her foundation degree and Helen Campagna who has just completed her degree in Facilitating Learning and Development. For more information about the Foundation Degree for Teaching Assistants contact Programme Leader, Mary Karpel on M.Karpel@uel.ac.uk
