Please see that Clearing 2007 begins this year on Thursday 16 August bright and early at 7.30am.
Emma Burchfield Acting Head of Student Admissions said: "Banners and directional signage for Clearing and late summer recruitment start going up today. We're getting really excited now in Student Admissions in anticipation of Thursday and we're all set for a brisk and busy start."
The Clearing Telephone Centre will be based on the Lower Trading Floor in the Business School, where all Schools will have their own dedicated Clearing desk.
Both Emma Burchfield and Susie King, Assistant Head of Admissions have been running training sessions for colleagues who will be involved in the Clearing process.
If you haven't managed to come along to one of these sessions, but you are going to be involved in our Clearing operation; your final chance to find out how Clearing works and to make your role most effective, is Wednesday 15 August at 10am in the Business School Lecture Theatre. Kiyoaki Takeda, who graduated this summer with his Graduate Diploma in Architectural Design, has been selected as one of the ten 'Class of 2007' UK diploma students by Building Design Magazine. He was this week also nominated for a RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Silver Medal.
Kiyoaki was nominated after winning our School of Arts and Digital Industries (AVA) Head of School's prize in June for his final project, an exciting design for an education centre based on existing industrial buildings.
Kiyoaki, who is now joining the prestigious David Chipperfield practice in London, said: “It’s nice to receive this recognition. I came to UEL because it has a good reputation for architecture internationally. There is a great atmosphere here, and I look forward to keeping in touch with my tutors and friends.”
Signy Svalastoga, Subject Director for Architecture at UEL, said: “This is great news for Kiyoaki, but I have to say not at all surprising. This year has produced some of our best-ever results, and a very exciting time for our School of Arts and Digital Industries.
Following this year’s successful introduction of MA Architecture: Alternative Urbanisms and MSc Architecture: Material Matters, September 2008 will see the launch of our new MA Landscape Architecture and a unique Professional Doctorate in Architecture.
