We are delighted that this Friday we host a visit from Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, as they join us to officially open our Business School, Library and Knowledge Dock Centre. The Royal opening celebrates the completion of our £130million investment programme in our state-of-art facilities at Docklands.
The Royal Couple join around 200 colleagues and more than 150 guests for a presentation and talk from our new Vice-Chancellor Professor Martin Everett describing our work, vision and some of our key achievements in recent years, as well as our ambitions for the future. The presentation takes place in the Business School Lecture Theatre and it is here that the Queen will unveil the official commemorative plaque to formally mark the opening of our new facilities.
Her Majesty and His Royal Highness will tour our facilities and the Queen will meet many students and representatives from local schools and partners as she visits our specially designed Community Pavilion.
Colleagues are warmly welcome to gather near the entrance to the Business School building when the Royal party arrives, from 11.15am. We are also likely to have journalists and photographers on campus who will be covering the Royal Visit.
Learning and teaching will continue as normal on Friday although we will need to close our Docklands Library on Friday morning. There will also be some restrictions on vehicle movement on the day in the interests of security around the time of arrival and departure.

William Rodriguez, the last man to get out of the Twin Towers alive on 9/11, recounted his experiences last Tuesday, to an audience of over 160 students, staff and local residents.
Mr Rodriguez worked for 20 years as a caretaker in the North Tower, looking after the stairwells. As holder of a master key, he opened all the locks for the rescue workers to go up and the survivors to get down the shortest and safest routes.
9/11 Awareness Week continued on Thursday when MI5 whistleblower David Shayler joined us to give a talk..
Zubair Islam, who is organised the UELSU event, said: “The 9/11 attacks are a defining moment in our history, but the story of what actually happened is still unfolding. Mr Rodriguez has raised urgent questions about the rhetoric and the realities in the so-called war on terror.”
