Gyms for All – coming soon at Docklands

Mike Leary, Olympics Consultant and Georgie Tarrant, Gyms for All

Docklands based colleagues might have noticed some temporary fencing has gone up around the piece of land just beyond our Business School.  This is the humble beginnings of a fantastic new outdoor gym facility, to be complete by the end of November.  A partnership between ourselves, the London Borough of Newham and Gyms for All; the facility will be open to the public and also means our staff and students will be able to exercise outdoors in a safe and purpose-built environment, with amazing views. Watch this space!

Library Drop in Sessions

The Library is running drop-in sessions at Docklands for all students twice a week interm time on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The sessions are to help students make full use of library resources. Library staff will be helping students with queries such as using our catalogue, logging on, creating an Athens account, acessing e-journals, searching databases, finding books, reserving books and so on. A Subject Librarian and another member of library staff will be at each session so students can get specialist advice for their subject area. They just need to come to the 2nd Floor which is the first floor of the library in the Business School. The times are either 11-1pm or 3-5pm.

What's Happened

Yet another well attended Open Evening!

Suryamayi Clarence-Smith who travelled from Holland for the Open Evening

Visitors travelled from far and wide to attend our Open Evening on Wednesday 18 October - one keen prospective student even came all the way Holland.

Over four hundred people came to our Docklands and Stratford campuses to find out more about the 300-plus degree programmes and combinations, we offer. Prospective UEL students received advice and guidance on all aspects of university life, including finances, short courses, February starts and part-time and postgraduate options.

February starts are becoming an increasingly popular alternative to the more traditional September entry. Over 1,200 students started their degrees with us in February 2006, nearly a quarter of the total intake for the year.

We’ve also expanded our part-time provision and we now offer a wide range of degrees with flexible study options designed to suit individual needs. Part-time degrees in Health, Psychology, Law, Business and Computing are proving particularly popular, and students have begun to benefit from the introduction of new bursaries and means-tested grants.
