News in brief

First Week Registration on the Trading Floor

Mary Hunt helping registration on the Trading FloorMary Hunt our Head of Registry reports that by close of play on Wednesday we’d completed 1,900 registrations from new students registering during First Week.

Mary explained: “We’re very happy with the numbers of students registering which shows how popular our programmes are and how well our teams of colleagues and student ambassadors are working together."

Musical entertainment, Freshers' Fayre, workshops and cookery demonstrations kept spirits high at both Stratford and Docklands all week which until today enjoyed some beautiful weather.

Making Progess - card issue on the Trading Floor

Peter Gray, Chairman and CEO of John Smith’s Bookshops and his team had issued about 2,280 Progress Cards by Thursday evening.  The Progress Card which works like a loyalty card is a unique initiative in the UK and we are the only university nationally offering Progress Bursary students the opportunity to use their Bursary in conjunction with their Card to buy books and stationery now, when they need it most, and reclaim their expenses in their second semester.

Peter speaking on behalf of his colleagues explained: “We’re really enjoying the experience of being here during First Week and meeting students directly.  We love the rich diversity here as well as the lively, dynamic feel of the campus.”.
