News in brief

Our Green Exit from Longbridge Road

Warm thanks were recently received from Warren School’s Head of Sixth Form Shirley Calder who wrote to Mike Thorne, to thank him for the furniture we were able to provide the school as part of our Green Exit from Longbridge Road.  A team of colleagues have been working to ensure the environmentally friendly and socially responsible disposal of surplus furniture, IT and other equipment from our Longbridge Road campus and. wherever possible we have worked with schools and community groups to reuse and recycle.

Shirley’s letter singles out Richard Pennington and Kate Burke for special praise.  Kate explains: “Warren School were setting up a sixth form centre and language centre on a very restricted budget.  We were glad to be able to provide them with our well used bookcases, desks and occasional furniture which we no longer needed in our new Library space.”

In her letter Shirley writes:  “It has already made an enormous difference to the appearance and ethos of our study/teaching rooms in the sixth form centre.  The relationship between UEL and the secondary schools within the borough has always been a productive one but this has surpassed my wildest expectations.”

Warren School is in Chadwell Heath.
