Welcome to new Director and Dean Selena Bolingbroke (pictured left), our new Director of External Strategic and Development Services (ESDS), and Dr Mohammad Dastbaz (pictured right) our new Dean of ComputDr Mohammad Dastbazing and Technology, both joined us last week. Selena, not only a former UELSU President but also previously Head of our Strategic Policy and Quality Enhancement (SPQE) team, returns to us from Thurrrock, where she has worked for the last three years. Dr Dastbaz joins us from the University of Greenwich, where he was Head of Information Systems and Multimedia. Dr Dastbaz said of his new post: "UEL is a really vibrant and expansive learning community and I am very ambitious about what we can achieve in the future. The School of Computing and Technology has many great strengths aSelena Bolingbrookend excellent links with industry, locally and globally, and the challenge now is to capitalise on the huge opportunities ahead."

UEL Team at London Bikeathon Seventeen UEL colleagues collectively rode 600 miles, in aid of Leukaemia Research, as part of London Bikeathon,  (Sunday 13 July). The atmosphere buzzed with eHadleigh, Del and Gregxcitement as several thousand cyclists took to the streets in the bright summer sunshine. Our team has easily exceeded their target of £1,000 and are closer to raising £2,000 in sponsorship, following a donation of more than £200 from the proceeds of the staff party raffle plus an amazing £600 raised by Del Basi's local Gurduwara (temple). The UEL team comprised: Jan Bernet, James Hiew, Kevin Pearch, Paul Kernaghan, Rosalynd Milroy, Lee Morris, Toby Grainger, Del Basi, David Douglas, Max Douglas, Greg Price, Mike Raddie, Bernie Englefield, Rohan Alexander, Hadleigh Bayley and John Callaghan. UELSU executive reception 2008 The Students' Union said goodbye to their outgoing executive and welcomed their new officers at an awards reception in the Underground Bar, last week (Friday. 11 July). Certificates and thanks were awarded to the outgoing sabbaticals and associates who have worked with UELSU throughout the year. Clearing starts Thurs 14 August is A-level results day and our Clearing Centre opens. The Centre will be based on the Lower Trading Floor of the Business School until Friday 19 September. Our Enrolment operation is also based on the Trading Floor of the Business School.  Early booked slots, including those for International Students take place prior to First Week.  Most enrolment will take place in pre-booked slots during  First Week (22 - 26 Sep).  Enrolment will have a reduced presence on the Trading Floor, following First Week, up until Friday 10 October.  For more information, contact: Mary Hunt on: M.E.J.Hunt@uel.ac.uk

Come and join the celebrations Patients, residents, family and friends are all invited to Newham General Hospital for ‘World of Health: Celebrating NHS 60 in Newham’ on Saturday 19 July to mark the NHS turning 60 this year. World of Health will bring together a wide range of activities offering something for everyone including games and displays, a health fair and health MOTs, art workshops, football skills with coaches from West Ham FC, fitness taster sessions with Newham Leisure Centre, emergency vehicles, advice on how to save energy and money from the Energy Saving Trust. There will also be children’s entertainers, , tasty refreshments, freebies, competitions and much, much more. FREE PARKING is provided at the hospital for this event.
