New web pages launched for sustainable procurement New and improved procurement web pages are now live and ready for use. The pages are designed to provide our staff with a single access point for all procurement related information. You will find an updated preferred supplier listing, a new suggested supplier listing along with help and support pages for commitment accounting that include video demonstrations on how to perform the main tasks associated with the system.   You will also find policies and manuals relating to our procurement procedures and a host of other useful information.   If you would like to suggest additions or improvements, please contact the Procurement Team at purchasing@uel.ac.uk You'll find the new procurement pages by visiting: http://www.uel.ac.uk/financialservices/procurement/sustainable.htm
Justine Cawley

IHHD takes on a new director Justine Cawley has joined our Institute of Health and Human Development (IHHD) as Director of Business and External Affairs.  The post involves income generation and developing strategy. While working for the Greater London Authority, Justine co-wrote the £9.5m Lottery Bid Well London and was instrumental in helping us to become a partner in its delivery. Justine has long experience of income generation, widening participation and economic regeneration. Due to her expertise in bid-writing Justine has been asked to write a guide on External Funding and Partnership work by Sir Bob Fryer for the Widening Participation Unit which is used throughout the country.

Trinity Music Room named after Greg Eglin Business School lecturer Greg Eglin was honoured on Friday 20 June when Trinity Catholic High School named their new music room after him. Known as The Greg Eglin Suite, the tribute acknowledges Greg's fifteen years of service as a governor as well as his tireless support for music provision within the school. Greg's wife, Janice Eglin, works as one of our Information, Advice and Guidance officers; and both of their daughters went to Trinity and are now studying music degrees.

National Mentoring Consortium (NMC) hosts a celebratory luncheon to present merit awards to honour and recognise our, Black, Asian and other Minority Ethnic (BAME) graduates, who have, and are continuing to make, significant contribution to health care in East London. The event, which will take place at UEL on 2 July 2008 acknowledges the 60th anniversary of the National Health Service and is sponsored, by the NHS National Institute for Innovation Improvement and the Department of Health Equality and Human Rights Group. It also acknowledges the 60th anniversary of the arrival of the SS Empire Windrush from the Caribbean to Britain, many of its passengers entering the NHS.

Our Vice-Chancellor, Martin Everett, is sponsoring the party to say thank you to our staff for all their hard work and commitment throughout the year. We're currently in the process of setting up an organising committee so that we get good representation from all Schools and Services. Ideas at the moment are for some Djing, live music and performance poetry, with weather permitting a bbq served on the dock. Quiet Day for UEL Our Chaplaincy would like to organise a Quiet Day for staff who would appreciate the opportunity to take a step back for a while and "just be". The plan is to go somewhere attractive and peaceful for a few hours, with the style and content of the day to be agreed in advance by those planning to attend. This is conceived as a pressure-free time, possibly with some input for reflection, if people wish. Simple shared lunch. Want to race in a team with Thames Dragonboats? Takes place 26 July at the London Regatta Centre, 250 metres racing in the morning and 500 metres in the afternoon. We're going to be meeting on Tuesday evenings for training starting next week. Strong and fairly aggressive paddlers especially welcome.
