Secretary of State to open Barking Learning Centre Barking Learning Centre celebrates its official opening with a visit by John Denham MP, secretary of state for innovation, universities and skills, on Wednesday, June 10. The event, timed also to celebrate BLC’s first birthday, will showcase work being delivered by our partners, London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and Barking College.   Dr Shani Gbaja (pictured left), Head of UEL Extra, said: "We welcome the Minister to witness first hand how UEL is responding to the agenda of widening participation and enabling mature students to balance study with work and other commitments." New Partnership Venture for Raphael Samuel History Centre The Raphael Samuel History Centre is being relaunched as a partnership between UEL, Birkbeck and Bishopsgate Institute.  New connections will be fostered both within and beyond the university sector, with the aim of transforming the Raphael Samuel History Centre into one of the UK’s most dynamic centres foTeam buildingr historical research. Team Kilimanjaro


Team Kilimanjaro Details: On 20 June, UELSU's Sinead McCarthy (Advice and Information Manager), Jaqs Bourne ( Student Activities Organiser), and Art Faulkner (incoming Welfare and Education Officer) set out on a six-day trek to climb to the top of Africa, that is, Mount Kilimanjaro's Kibo Peak, at 5,895 m. The team's target is to raise £6,000 for Richard House Children's Hospice. Donations, which are very, very welcome, can be taken to the Sinead, Jaqs and Art at the Students' Union office.
