My UEL’s design a bag competition announced Marco Duarte, Fashion Design student from the School of Arts and Digital Industries, as the winner of the university wide competition.
The Design a bag competition asked students to come up with a design that expressed what it meant to them to be a student at UEL. Duarte’s design linked in well with his Fashion Design course at UEL and allowed him to experiment with new ideas. It was the first time he had designed shoes, so it was a real opportunity for him to showcase his ability in a different context. The winning design was derived from a ‘power woman’ theme, with strong imagery coming from the iconic Cruella Deville character with her black and red stiletto shoes. Duarte sketched a few designs but when he came up with this one he knew straight away this was the image he wanted to see the UEL community wearing over their shoulders.
