The Medicines Research Group (MRG) hosted the London BioNat Network Research meeting at the UEL for the first time on Wednesday 13 March 2013.
More than 65 scientists from UCL School of Pharmacy, King's College London, Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew, Trinity College Dublin and several Natural Product companies, attended the series of lectures and seminars. Subjects covered included Pharmacognosy, Natural Product Chemistry, Ethnopharmacology and Biopharmaceuticals.
The conference debated recent research on commercial aspects of natural products and ethnopharmacology. Concerning cosmetics, Professor Peter Houghton, Emeritus Professor at KCL and Honorary Research Associate at Kew Gardens, presented constituents of Rhubarb responsible for tyrosinase inhibition of consequence in skin-lightening products.
London BioNat Network (previously known as KKS) is formed by academic and research staff of UCL School of Pharmacy, King's College and Kew Garden having research interest in Pharmacognosy, Natural Product Chemistry, Ethnopharmacology and Phytochemistry.
UEL has now been formally included into London BioNat network and has established strong research collaboration with London BioNat partners. This meeting further strengthened collaborative research among the partners and was co-chaired by Drs Mukhlesur Rahman and Olivia Corcoran of the Medicines Research Group at UEL
